The first story Melody Villa ever wrote was a fanfiction FRIENDS pastiche in which the love interest (played by “Weird Al” Yankovic!) was a war photographer assumed dead in enemy territory fighting his way home to his grieving comic book illustrator wife. Showcasing her unique blend of dry wit, overwrought drama, and bombastic plots, this little project also served as proof to her online buddies she had never seen a single episode of FRIENDS.
Knowing that writing wasn’t a practical career choice, she pursued fine art and history in college, empowering her with even less in-demand skills when she graduated from the University of Northern Colorado.
Much like her hero, Moby Dick’s Ishmael, she failed at being a teacher for a while before returning to her collection of strange little stories and the elaborate worlds she built in her head.
A lover of noble pirates, feral women, and prose so purple it could never dream of surviving traditional publication, Melody writes indie books for “the weird girl grown up.”
An avid hater of AI generated content, she believes in the strange, messy parts of human-expression, and all her work (for better or worse) is 100% hers.
